Digital Telangana: villages go Digital

Hyderabad: While the other States in the country are struggling hard to overcome  currency crisis post demonetisation,  Telangana Government claims to have achieved a milestone by converting 63 villages into ‘e-cash’ villages spread over seven districts.

Sangareddy district has the highest number with 40 villages being converted into digital cash areas, followed by Nizamabad (13), Siddipet (5), Nalgonda (2) and one each in Adilabad, Jangaon and Bhadadri – Kothagudem. 

Bar dance not art, it promotes obscenity’

Holding that dance performances in bars are not an art form that needs to be promoted and protected, the Maharashtra government told the Supreme Court that such dances are "vulgar and derogatory", which need to be regulated to protect the honour and dignity of bar girls.

Justifying its decision to bring in a new law to put various restrictions on dance bar owners, the state told SC that in many cases, dance bars were being used to run prostitution rackets and it was duty-bound to curb such activities.

13 cooprative banks deposited Rs 1,600 crore in banned notes post demonetization

NEW DELHI: An ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate against 50 bank branches of ten leading banks across the country has raised suspicions of big money laundering operations across the country post demonetisation, using dormant and newly opened accounts. In one case, 13 cooperative banks had deposited around Rs 1,600 crore in the Mumbai branch of a commercial bank. Another cooperative bank in Surat deposited Rs 20 crore in demonetised notes in its account with the Bank of Baroda.
